Who we are

We are an alliance of scholars, educators, researchers, and graduate and undergraduate students who are committed to advancing global studies and international education at Indiana University, and across the nation and world.

Based at Indiana University’s Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies (HLS), the Center for the Study of Global Change is making a systematic, sustained effort to infuse global perspectives into learning at all levels, from pre-kindergarten through graduate school and beyond.

Whoever and wherever you are, we’re committed to providing you with interdisciplinary global perspectives crafted through deep critical understanding, action, conversation, collaboration, empathy, and endless curiosity.

What we do

The Global Center was founded in 1990. And though our name has undergone a few changes since then, our mission remains unchanging. We foster a supportive environment for cutting-edge approaches to global teaching, learning, and scholarship. Equally important, we bring scholars and practitioners into dialogue. We take advantage of social media and technology to produce new global knowledge for broad audiences and create public intellectuals.

How we do it

We work collaboratively across intellectual, cultural, and geographical borders on a huge range of projects. To cite only a few of our most recent accomplishments, we have:

Earned designation as a National Resource Center for global and international studies by the United States Department of Education
Developed the Indiana Language Roadmap plan to strengthen world language learning across the state in partnership with stakeholders across business, education, health care, and government sectors
Published twenty-one books in our Global Research Studies Series, in collaboration with the Indiana University Press. Our latest book, The Digital Frontier, by Sangeet Kumar is now available
Produced a volume for media practitioners and scholars about the important role of the media in crafting public discourse around Islam, as part of our award-winning Muslim Voices Project
Completed our four-year Global Learning Across Indiana (GLAI) initiative to develop a Global Studies Certificate, design Arabic classes, and internationalize dozens of courses across the statewide Ivy Tech Community College curriculum

Today, the Global Center builds on its strengths, tackles new challenges, expands its reach, and remains a significant player in the scholarly, pedagogical, and practical aspects of Global Studies.
