Deliberation for Global Perspectives in Teaching and Learning (DGP) is a curriculum that meets K-12 academic standards in various subjects while accomplishing vital global learning objectives:
- Encourage civil discourse
- Pique interest in current and historical topics with international implications
- Sharpen active listening and critical thinking skills
- Add diversity and creativity to classroom instruction
DGP lesson plans include teacher-developed, classroom-tested teaching methods and innovative classroom activities that teach students how to deliberate as they examine issues from all sides. The curriculum is geared to high school students; however, it can be modified for use at other levels. Additionally, the skills gained through deliberation help students in their professional careers and to play an active role as engaged citizens.
IU Deliberations is based on The Choices Program at Brown University.
