Updates from the Global Service and Peace Corps Preparation Program
by Teresa Nichols
Coordinated by the Global Center, IU Bloomington’s Global Service and Peace Corps Preparation Program achieved two major accomplishments this year, the Global Service Careers Showcase and the completely revised Certificate in Global Service and Peace Corps Preparation. In March 2020, the program organized a Global Service Careers Showcase to provide students with the opportunity to listen and speak to professionals with work experience in a variety of nonprofit organizations around the world, within the U.S., and locally. The showcase included four panels organized thematically around the Peace Corps’ work sectors: education and youth in development; health; community economic development; and environment and agriculture. The variety of speakers discussed how globally beneficial service work can be done at international, regional, and local levels and shared their perspectives on how students can pursue it as a career path. The recorded sessions are available on the Global Center’s YouTube channel. Congratulations on a job well done to Logan Gunning, the program’s Outreach and Communications Assistant, for helping to plan and facilitate the showcase.
