Supporting Statewide Priorities Through the Indiana Language Roadmap
By Eli Konwest
Thank you to the Indiana Language Roadmap Advisory and Governing Board for the continued support of developing more opportunities for high-quality world language learning and global education while ensuring that individuals of all ages, backgrounds, professions, and regions of Indiana have equitable access to this instruction and knowledge.
The Language Roadmap Community Grants have been effective at providing small monetary awards to schools, community groups, non-profits organizations, and individuals to advance the identified priorities of the Language Roadmap. Projects in 2022 included supporting the Indiana Workplace English Collaborative to improve access to workplace English training resources and providing funds to support the purchase of globally and culturally responsive books at IU Health hospitals pediatric units. For more on these and other awardees, please view the Community Grant Showcase.
We continue to partner with the Indiana Foreign Language Teacher Association on a series of virtual webinars for language learning professionals. This year’s interactive webinars included, “Stereotyping Students and Students Stereotyping” by Heather Sweetser, ACTFL World Language Teacher of the Year, and her partners at the University of New Mexico. Recorded webinars can be found on the Global Center’s YouTube page.
