Isaiah Green is from Waynesville, North Carolina and is a PhD Candidate in Ethnomusicology at Indiana University. He graduated from East Tennessee State University with a Bachelor in Music with a concentration in vocal performance in 2017. He completed a Master of Music with a concentration in musicology at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 2019. His research focuses on musical expression in cultural traditions of Conjure in the American South and their connections to the environment. He has presented on topics around cultural and environmental connections at the annual meeting of the American Musicological Society, the Music of the Sea Symposium, and the annual meeting of the Society for Ethnomusicology. He is currently conducting fieldwork with practitioners of Conjure in southern Appalachia, as well as archival research on the roots of these practices in the area.
