Isaiah Green is from Haywood County, North Carolina and is a PhD Candidate in Ethnomusicology at Indiana University. He graduated from East Tennessee State University with a Bachelor in Music with a concentration in vocal performance in 2017. He completed a Master of Music with a concentration in musicology at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 2019, and is now a PhD Candidate in Ethnomusicology at Indiana University. His research focuses on musical expression and sound in cultural traditions of southern Appalachia and their connections to the environment. He is currently conducting fieldwork on bluegrass and country music of southern Appalachia and its ties to local issues of development concerning gentrification and environmental disasters, and he is working with practitioners of Folk Magic throughout Appalachia on the history of the practice.
