Zakwani is a PhD student in the Department of African American and African Diaspora Studies (AAADS), with minors in Environmental Studies, Political Science, and African Linguistics. As a proud graduate of New York University, Zakwani earned his master's degree in Public Health at NYU College of Global Health in 2019. Subsequently, he completed another master's degree in International Relations from the Austin Marx School of Public and International Affairs at Baruch College, City University of New York, in 2020. His research focuses on several critical areas, including Environmental Policy, African Ecology, Black Environmentalism, Black Feminist Political Ecology, Sustainable Development, Global Health, Agriculture, Climate adaptation, Public Policy, Black Political Thought, and Decolonization. Specifically, Zakwani's doctoral research focuses on the quality of life for female farmers in the Northern Region of Ghana. In 2024, he received the David Boren National Security Fellowship Award.
