Global Center to hire graduate and undergraduate student for Academic Year 2019/20

Graduate Assistantship

The Center for the Study of Global Change (Global Center) at Indiana University is recruiting one (1) Graduate Assistant (GA) for Academic Year 2019-2020.  The GA must be a PhD candidate and eligible for G901 credits (or equivalent). This GA position includes general program assistance, as well as more focused assistance with website maintenance, media content production, and data collection. Occasional travel and evening/weekend work required.

The GA receives a stipend up to $15,750 and health insurance.  There is no fee remission.  The GA is expected to work 20 hours per week.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a PhD candidate that is ABD and is enrolled in G901 credits (or equivalent).
  • The ideal candidates will be flexible, hard-working, and will have strong organizational skills and work experience.  Familiarity with international, trans-regional, and/or global issues and trends in any discipline(s) is ideal.
  • Academic or personal experience with social media and website development.
  • General program assistance will require skills in information technologies, communication, research, data collection and organization, and website management.  
  • An academic or experiential background in the internationalization of K-12 and higher education, outreach, research, and community programming.

Undergraduate Academic Intern

Work Study

The Center for the Study of Global Change is looking to hire an undergraduate junior or senior eligible for federal work-study for the 2019/20 academic year.

This academic internship provides comprehensive experience in general program administration, coordination of special projects, data collection, and the outreach activities of international education. The interns will report to the Associate Director of the Center for the Study of Global Change and will assist on a variety of the Global Center’s projects, all aimed at the deeper internationalization of Indiana University and beyond. Tasks will include, but are not limited to, the coordination and hands-on assistance of international conferences, student symposia, and outreach; data collection, research, and compilation for grant reporting and electronic resources; managing social media and web content; and general support for communications and programming.  In addition to broader assistance, each intern may also be assigned to a particular project or initiative each semester, with which they will provide creative assistance and learn about its intricacies and administration.  

 

The ideal candidate is a responsible junior or senior with an interest in international issues and solid organizational skills, who can work independently and in a group. Students with cross-cultural understanding, international experience, foreign language abilities, and computer and database skills are preferred. 

Hours per week vary depending on each work-study case, but typically are 6-10.  Flexible schedule, with most shifts Monday-Friday between 9-5 and occasional weekends or evenings.  Pay is $11.50/hr.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have applied for financial aid for year of internship (FAFSA) and qualify for USA federal work study funds for year of internship
  • Junior or senior class standing during period of internship
  • Enrolled full time on the IUB campus during period of internship
