The Indiana Language Roadmap held its first statewide summit in Indianapolis on February 10th, 2018 at the Indiana Landmarks Center. A summary of the event is available online.
A second statewide summit will be held in Indianapolis in late Fall 2018.
First Summit Objectives:
It will involve discussions with diverse stakeholders about how language learning and global education for cross-cultural competency can advance the education, economy, and health of the state. The summit will define gaps, strengths, resources, action items, and goals for improving world language learning in Indiana. This event is a critical first step toward the Indiana Language Roadmap project team’s work with designated regional leaders to write a statewide Roadmap plan with recommendations for strengthening world language learning.

10 am Summit begins, opening remarks by National Security Education Program representative and Indiana Language Roadmap leadership team
10:30 Remarks by featured speakers and organizational representatives (including Representative Bob Behning and Indiana Secretary of Career Connections & Talent Blair Milo, as well representatives from the Indiana Department of Education, the Indiana Foreign Languages Teachers Association, health, law enforcement, and legal and social services)
12:30-1:30 Lunch (buffet) with Dr. Richard Brecht speaking
1:30 Discussion about strengths, needs, and challenges in world language learning
2:30 Discussion about goals for Indiana Language Roadmap plan
3:30 Next steps for the Roadmap project
4 pm Summit ends
