Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowships
by Elizabeth Konwest
Now in the third year of the current funding cycle as a U.S. Department of Education Title VI Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowship granting center, we are pleased to award these prestigious fellowships to a new cohort of outstanding students. Summer and Academic Year awardees are studying critical languages including Arabic, Bengali, Chinese (Mandarin), Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Swahili. Global Center FLAS students are interested in pursuing careers in a wide variety of fields including international law, professional translation, U.S. State Department and the U.S. Foreign Service, Peace Corps, USAID, international NGOs, K-12 and higher education, and more. We especially salute our fellows this year as many of them had to cancel study abroad opportunities due to the pandemic restrictions, but they have maintained their commitment to language learning and global studies.
